FCT Ohanaeze inaugurates sub-committees, tasks residents on unity

The Federal Capital Territory chapter of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaze Nd’Igbo has inaugurated 12 sub-committees to that help to pilot the activities of the body in Abuja.

Inaugurating the committees, Tuesday at Bolingo Hotels and Towers, Abuja, the President, Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, FCT Chapter, Barrister Onwu Arua, charged members who were drawn from various professions, to use their contacts in the society to advice the executive body on the best means of generating funds that would enable them embark on projects that will be beneficial to Igbos generally.

He also charged the committees, especially the Legal Adversary Committee to use its legal expertise to come up with a laudable means of dissuading aggrieved Igbo residents in the FCT to desist from patronising Police Stations any time they have misunderstanding with their fellow Igbo.

He decried the fact that as such acts breed disharmony and mistrust and eventually enrich the operatives of the security agencies.

Barr  Arua, particularly, tasked the men to encourage their wives to be visible and be part of the activities of the body especially in identifying with the Women Development Committee.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Simon N. Okeke, congratulated the executive of the association for achieving the much within a short period in office, especially on the restoration of peace within the association.

Many speakers at the event lamented the State of the Nation, especially insecurity, as it concerns the Igbo and made case for President of South-east origin in 2023 general elections.

They called on Igbo living in the FCT to be vigilant amidst the current insecurity in the territory, even as the urged them to remain peaceful always.

The sub-committees include publicity, legal, women, contact and mobilisation, culture/tradition, finance, market/traders, peace/reconciliation, political and intergovernmental, project, and welfare.
