FCT Ohanaeze hails Ndigbo, others for boycotting protests

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended people of the South eastern part of the country for keeping away from the nationwide hunger protests, which commenced on August 1, 2024.

Ohanaeze in a thank you message signed by the spokesperson to the FCT president of the organisation, Mazi Chidi George-Okoli, expressed gratitude to Ndigbo in the FCT for dissociating themselves from the protest, which it viewed as anti-Igbo.

George-Okoli noted that the decision by the Igbo to refrain from the protest reflected deep understanding of the importance of peace and dialogue in resolving national issues.

He further observed that their attitude towards the protest was a demonstration of maturity and a desire for a united Nigeria where every citizen, regardless of ethnic or political affiliations could work together for the common good.

The statement read: “Recently, Nigeria has faced numerous challenges, from economic uncertainties to political tensions. In this complex environment, it is crucial for all citizens to strive for unity and peaceful coexistence.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Igbo community living in Federal Capital Territory for their commendable cooperation by accepting the request of president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, FCT, Chief Eze Primacy John Okadigbo, dissociating Igbo Community from the protest viewed as anti-Igbo protest as well as your restraint and wisdom during recent protest.”
