FCT Minister assures security for corp members

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)  Alhaji Muhammad Musa Bello, has reassured of  security for members of the National Youth Service Corp  (NYSC)  serving in the FCT, saying mobilisation of youths from different parts of the country  across the nation over the years united the country.

Bello stated this Tuesday in Abuja as a special guest at the 2019 Batch “B” pre-mobilisation workshop which held on the theme: “Achieving Greater Efficiency in the NYSC Mobilisation Process: The Role of Stakeholders.”

Represented by the a Director in the Ministry Hajiya Safiya Umar, Bello noted that the theme is apt considering the huge number of graduates that are mobilised yearly to serve the country.

He therefore expressed commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of corp members posted to the FCT, adding that there are plans to upgrade the camp facility to accommodate more members.

“The NYSC scheme has brought unity to the country over the years through the mobilisation of young graduates to different parts of the country

“We will continue to improve on providing security for corp mbers serving in the FCT and also enaure the orientatio camp is in good condition,” he said.

In his welcome address, the Director General (DG) of NYSC Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, noted the advantages of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the mobilization process of the scheme.

DG Ibrahim who lauded all stakeholders on the achievements of the NYSC said the new ICT-driven NYSC has gained acceptance despite numerous challenges, assuring that they were making headway.

“The ICT-driven NYSC is gaining greater acceptance across the broad spectrum of stakeholders and the general public in spite of the numerous challenges, shows that we are heading in the right direction.

” It is time for us to move the process to the next level. In particular, it is time to take fuller advantage of the many ICT applications to drive the process to a logical conclusion,” he said.

The DG also said in terms of security of corp members the NYSC is collaborating with all the security agencies, adding that phone numbers have been provided for corp members to call incase of any security threats.

Earlier, the Director, Corps Mobilisation at the NYSC said the workshop was aimed at reviewing performances in the previous mobilization exercise as well as identify challenges with a view to progfering solutions to such problems.
