FCT: Abaji chairman calls for tolerance, unity

Chairman of Abaji area council, Abuja, Hon Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, has called on Christians in the area to imbibe the virtues of tolerance and unity during this Christmas celebration.

The chairman made the call during his Christmas message to the people of Abaji area council on Saturday.

Hon Umar Abdullahi, who is also the national chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), said the country was in need of prayers, dedication and patriotic zeal by the citizenry to move the nation to greater heights.

He pointed to Christ’s teaching on humility, selfless service, welfare, sacrifice, tolerance, peace and stability for all, irrespective of religious backgrounds.

The Abaji council boss urged Nigerians to love and tolerate one another, irrespective of religious and political differences, for the nation to overcome the security challenges confronting it.

“The nation has the human and natural potentials to achieve greatness and most Nigerians have excelled in various fields of human endeavours across the world,” the ALGON chairman said, noting that peace, tolerance, steadfastness, perseverance; love for one another would go a long way in saving the country from total collapse.

He advised Christians in the country not to use the occasion for merriment alone, but to reflect on issues aggravating insecurity, terrorism, corruption, joblessness, violence and instability in the country.
