Fayose defends stomach infrastructure, backs immunity for governors, president

The newly elected governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose yesterday defended his policy of stomach infrastructure.
Addressing journalists at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat, Fayose kicked against the removal of immunity for governors and President.
The governor of Ekiti, who accompanied President Goodluck Jonathan to pick his form at the party headquarters said stomach infrastructure is good for the people.

“Stomach infrastructure is very important in the life of a man. If you look at Britain, as rich and as comfortable as they are, in the entire time, they find their way to address the issue of the poor and less privileged masses in their country by what they call social security.

“Food is a social security, you can’t be talking to a hungry man, he would be distracted by any means.
“Secondly, when we say stomach infrastructure, it is a welfare programme, a programme that would keep the heart of a man stable.
“I have set up a department and I have appointed SA and PA stomach infrastructure and same will be in all the local government areas. So, my style without apology is that stomach infrastructure is a way of life for me, I will relate well with my people to alleviate poverty and hunger,” he said.
On immunity Fayose said, “I will not support removal of immunity clause, not because of anything but because of distraction.

He added that “the kind of characters we have in Nigeria politics are those who believe if it is not them that is in power, then such system should be destroyed, distracting a chief executive is not the best. The moment you remove the immunity clause, the governor will be in court everyday and that will not enhance development. We must know our state and stage of development before taking certain actions.”
He however said that he does not have issue with the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, adding that the alleged issue was the handiwork of blackmailers.
