Family seeks presidential intervention to retrieve late Borgu monarch’s land

The family of Senator Haliru Dantoro, the late Emir of Borgu Kingdom in Niger state Thursday decried the unlawful confiscation of its land in New Bussa by a construction firm, Gilmor Engineering Limited. Spokesman of the family, Murtala Dantoro, appealed for presidential intervention to retrieve the property.

Speaking at a press briefing in Minna Thursday, he stated that the particular land belongs to his late father and has been occupied by the construction company as its quarry site since 2019 without the consent of the family.

He said, “The land in question which is located in New Bussa, Borgu Kingdom, has been occupied as a quarry site for the federal road rehabilitation project on the New Bussa-Kaiama 79km road which was awarded to Gilmor since 2019. This lack of consultation and respect for our family’s right is not only unfair but also a violation of our inheritance.”

He stated further that the contract for the project was awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing in 2019, yet at no point was any family member consulted about the use of the land for quarry extraction.

He said:  “The Dantoro family is calling on President Tinubu to please intervene and instruct Gilmor Engineering and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to address this issue with urgency. We seek proper engagement regarding the use of our land.”
