Falaki’s killers must be brought to book – KCSF

By Ibrahim Ramalan

The Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) in a press release signed by its publicity secretary, M.K. Adam, has described the death of the Professor of Agronomy and Director Institute of Agricultural Research (IAR) of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and former Country Director of the SASAKAWA Project in Nigeria, Professor Ahmad Falaki, as a callous and dastardly act of cruelty and an indicator of how our society and institutions have degenerated so low.

The statement noted that the gruesome murder of one of the illustrious sons of Kano, Professor Ahmad Falaki in circumstances of alleged mistaken identity in Fala town of Tudun Wada Local Government area on February 14, 2015 is condemnable and therefore called on the government to bring the culprit to book.

“As members of the civil society community working for the advancement and protection of the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians, we want to add our voice to that of many well meaning Nigerians and civil society organisations in condemning the killing of the late Professor and calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Police Commission in Kano to ensure thorough investigation is carried out on this case and no stone should be left unturned and all culprits are brought to book in most transparent and accountable manner.

“Such act of clear violation of human rights cannot be allowed to go unchecked and the entire civil society community in Nigeria shall continue to follow up this case till it reaches its logical conclusion.

“We want to use this medium to commiserate with his immediate and extended families and professional colleagues on the death of the benevolent Professor. His death was certainly a great loss to Kano, Nigeria and the community agronomists in the world. His contribution to knowledge and humanity will never be forgotten.” The statement noted.
