Faisal is in your custody, produce him in Court – Lawyer tells EFCC, Police

The counsel representing Faisal Maina, son of Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman, defunct Pension Reformed Task Team (PRTT), Thursday told the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Police Force to produce Faisal in court, insisting that he is in their custody.

At the resumed sitting, the EFCC’s Counsel, Mohammed Abubakar, told Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja that from the information at the disposal of the anti-graft agency, it appears Faisal has fled to the United States of America (USA), through the Republic of Niger.

“We heard rumors that Faisal has fled to the United States of America (USA), through the Republic of Niger.”

“But how is this possible because his traveling documents are still with the court?,” he queried.

Responding, Faisal’s counsel, Anayo Adibe said, “It is rather contradictory to say Faisal has fled to the United States of America because if in one breath the prosecution says his traveling documents are with the court and in another breath they are saying he is in the United States of America, we can not agree with that. How did he get to the United States? Can he trek to the United States from Nigeria? I don’t think so. So it is still a question that we need to answer.”

“We are all aware that the police came out and said they have him in custody. Where is he? They should produce him before the court.

“He called me on telephone while he was in their custody and after that time, his number stopped going through. I fear for his life.”

Earlier at the Thursday’s sitting, Justice Abang, in a committal proceeding ruling, ordered Faisal’s surety, who is a member of the House of Representatives, Sani Dan-Galadima. representing Kaura-Namoda Federal Constituency of Zamfara, to forfeit a property used as a bail bond.

Faisal was granted a N60 million bail with a surety in the like sum who must be a serving member of the House of Representatives.
