The Friends for Aid Initiative (FAIDI) has given free medical treatment on malaria and typhoid disease for children between the ages of 0 and 10 years in Ungwa Rimi, a suburb of Kaduna state.
Speaking to journalists during the flag-off of the one day exercise at the Primary Health Care Centre, Ungwar Rimi, Kaduna, chairman of the group, Aliyu Shettima, who was impressed with the turn out of the participants, said that the aim of the exercise was to eradicate the scourge of malaria and typhoid in the society.
While speaking on the choice of the community, Shettima said: “We started the Friends for Aid Initiative in Ungwar Rimi here, so, we felt we should start something like this here, but that does not mean
we are not going to extend our gesture to other communities in all our core areas of operations.
“Before this particular exercise, given free medical treatment to children between 0 and 10 years of age, in the past, we have been able to intervene and cater for natural disaster victims in various ways based on our financial capacity in so many communities within Kaduna State.
“With this exercise, our target is to give free medical treatment to 150 children in this community, but with what we are seeing we might go beyond the 150 children estimated for the programme because of the large turnout of people.
“For what you see here today, we have spent over 200 thousand naira only for the drugs without the logistics and other expenses,” Shettima explained.
While thanking the group for their gesture on behalf of the community, the Chief Imam of Ungwar Rimi Central Mosque, Musa Tanimu, said his community members were always exposed to malaria and typhoid infections, saying that the duo are killer diseases.
