FAAN condemns alleged invasion of Sokoto airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has condemned the invasion of the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, by supporters of a notable politician in the state, describing the action as unacceptable.
FAAN described the invasion as a breach of security, and warned politicians against encouraging their loyalists to participate in the breakdown of law and order.
A statement by the General Manager, Corporate Communications, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, noted that the loyalists broke through the airport fence and invaded the airport in their bid to receive the Governor and other politicians who defected to the PDP.
Yakubu stated that the unfortunate incident was a gross violation of the security and safety arrangements at the airport and vowed not to tolerate such again.
She noted that the airport environment is a highly regulated environment and should be seen as such, stressing that as the 2019 general election approaches, the agency would not tolerate such actions from politicians and their loyalists.
“We want to advise the general public, especially politicians and their supporters, to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations at the airports, as we will not compromise security and safety at our airports for any reason,” she said.
However, she said a team of Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers of FAAN was able to contain the situation and restore normalcy to the airpo
