Expert hails Tinubu on electricity bill, Emefiele’s suspension

The suspension of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has attracted the praise of some Nigerian citizens.

President Tinubu had ordered Emefiele’s suspension, Friday evening, sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

Emefiele was directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.

Reacting to Emefiele’s suspension, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Emovworho Logistics Limited Comrade, Austin Obule Emovworho, Tuesday in Abuja, said “One decision Mr. President has made so far and which all Nigerians are happy and excited about is his removal of Godwin Emefiele because he has been acting on impunity and making poor financial decisions which have ruined Nigeria’s economy and further deepened our inflation level. He should face the consequences.”

Emovworho told Blueprint that, “Although not every Nigerian supported Tinubu during the February 2023 general elections, we are beginning to see what we have been lacking in the governance of the country for the past 8 years. Someone is clearly in charge and aware of the happenings in the country. I hope the tempo is sustained,” he stressed.

Continuing, he said: “Emefiele must give account of his stewardship. He must clear himself or be jailed according to law to serve as deterrent to others. This is long overdue; he inflicted pains on innocent Nigerians,” asking: “Where are the new notes he printed? He ended up wasting taxpayers’ money, experimented with several of his policies like Anchor Borrowers and Naira swap.”

Emovworho also hailed President Tinubu on the assent to the electricity bill, which empowers states, companies and individuals to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in the country.

He said the new law repeals the Electricity and Power Sector Reform Act of 2005, and consolidates the laws relating to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
