Ex-Kano ANPP chair Hotoro dies at 67

One of the leading pillars of the defunct All Nigeria’s Peoples Party (ANPP), Alhaji Sani Hashim Hotoro, has died at the age of 67 at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) after battling with diabetes. Hashim had been a prominent fi gure in the defunct All Nigeria’s Peoples Party whose contribution to its victory was highly seen and regarded as a major milestone in the politics that saw the emergence of Malam Ibrahim Shekarau on two consecutive term in offi ce, making him to break the jinx of becoming the only governor to be voted to power, for two terms in succession.

Th e defunct ANPP Chieftain was also revered to be among the leading members of Shekarau think-tank in the run up to the election that brought Governor Ibrahim Shekarau to power in May 29, 2003 and May 29, 2011. He continued to enjoy the considerable support and loyalty of the Executive Council Members he was leading up till the time when the party formed a merger with the ACN, CPC, which gave birth to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He was part of the shuttle diplomacy carried out by Malam Ibrahim Shekarau at the peak of the latter’s Presidential campaign in 2011, having been considered to have an possessed the acumen of wooing voters in an election time after which he chose to keep a low profi le as a result of the ailment he had suff ered. His funeral prayer was attended by prominent politicians in Kano which included the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rabiu Dansharu Kiru, immediate past Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Alhaji Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, immediate past Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Musa Suleiman Shanono, and a host of others. He is survived by two wives and many children.
