President of Pan-African Institute of Global Affairs (PAIGAS), Ambassador Martins Uhomoihi, has cautioned Nigerian Youths on illegal migration outside the shores of the country in search of greener pasture.
Uhomoilhi gave the advice in paper entitled: “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in Migration” to members of the National Youth Service Corps at the Yakubu Gowon Camp in Dutse, yesterday.
He stated that God had blessed “Nigeria with fertile land for agriculture, abundant natural resources like oil and mineral deposits; hence the need to migrate to any part of the world to look for something by Nigerians is not necessary.”
Uhomoilhi expressed sadness that in the process migrating, many Nigerians lost their lives in Sahara Desert and Mediterranean Sea, saying that he had not seen anything special to migrate to North or South America in search of jobs.
“Illegal migration is associated with many bad and ugly things because the migrants are exploited at: destinations and subjected to sex slavery and prostitution. It leads to brain drain and the future of the country and conscious of the migrants are mortgaged.
“Please don’t allow yourself to be reduced by others, love yourself, love your country and fear God. Sincerely speaking, this irregular migration affects Nigeria’s integrity. If you assumed that the migration is good for you because of the increase in your income, and then think about the bad and the ugly trends in it that usually tarnish the image of the country and our people.”
