Etsu Nupe honours veteran journalist with Jakada Labari Nupe title

The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has conferred the traditional title, Jakada Labari Nupe (Ambassador of Information in Nupe Kingdom) on a veteran journalist, Alhaji Mohammed Baba Busu, of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Baba Busu, the Zonal Manager of NAN in Minna, Niger state, was turbaned at the weekend alongside another illustrious son of Nupe land, Mohammed Alhassan Maaji, who received the title, Kakaki Raba Nupe.

Speaking at his Wadata palace in Bida, Niger state, the Etsu Nupe said the conferment of the titles on the two distinguished personalities was in recognition of their contributions to the growth and development of Bida Emirate.

The contributions of the two personalities are very significant to the qualities required to qualify them for titles in Bida Emirate and to guarantee peace and harmony in Nupe kingdom.

“We have gathered here today to honour our own who have contributed in one way or the other to the development of this domain and have explored ways, both within and outside, performing wonderfully in their respective careers, especially in the areas of commitments and dedication for the peace and prosperity of the entire Bida Emirate.

“Despite the bad road to Bida from Minna, the crowd of dignitaries here today clearly shows the love friends and associates have for you as you impacted your various communities. I commend you for living up to the expectations of your people,” the traditional ruler said.

He reminded the two new title holders that such titles came with more responsibilities, adding that they were expected to champion the peaceful co-existence among the subjects.

While expressing optimism that Baa Busu and Mohamed Majin will not fail in the responsibilities that go with their respective titles, the Etsu Nupe enjoined them to justify the confidence reposed on them by doing more for God and humanity.

Responding, the Jikada Labari Nupe, Alhaji Mohamed Baba Busu, thanked the Etsu Nupe for the honour done to them. He promised that they would do all that is humanly possible to uphold the title with associated responsibilities.
