Etsu Nupe harps on unity among subjects

Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, has emphasised the need for the Nupes at home and in the Diaspora to be united for speedy development of Kin Nupe.

He said that only those contributing to the development of the society would henceforth be duly recognised and honoured by his kingdom.

Alhaji Abubakar stated this at the official turbaning ceremony of Dan Ajiya Nupe title conferred on Alhaji Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi, chairman, Mokwa local government area, at his Wadata Palace in Bida.

He admonished those given traditional titles to make meaningful investments in the kingdom with the view to boost the development of the area, Niger state and Nigeria in general.

The royal father counseled his subjects against disunity, pointing out that it was a retrogressive force against the efforts to ensure development.

Alhaji Abubakar also challenged wealthy sons of the emirate, especially those in The Diaspora, to establish industries at home, in order to facilitate the socio-economic development of the area.

He said more investments and the establishment of industries would help in reducing the rising unemployment and biting poverty in the country.

The traditional ruler attributed most of the problems affecting Nigeria, like insecurity and youth restiveness to unemployment and poverty.

“Those that are given traditional titles are people of proven integrity who show concern to the development and socio-economic well-being of the emirate,” he said.

In his response, the newly-turbaned Ajiya Nupe, Muregi, promised not to fail the Etsu Nupe, Bida Emirate and Niger state in the discharge of their responsibilities.
