Equity market sustains growth by N35bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday sustained growth profile as the value of equity improved by N35 billion. The market capitalisation of listed equities grew by 0.25 per cent to N13.607 trillion from N13.572 trillion recorded the previous day. Also the NSE All Share Index rose by 104.72 basis points to 41210.10 points from 41105.38 traded on Monday.
A review of the trading showed that investors bought 1.079 billion shares worth N8.084 billion in 4894 deals against 274.021 million shares valued at N4.739 billion traded on Monday in 4567 deals.

analysis of the investment indicated that Guinness Nigeria Plc led gainers table appreciating by N15.48 kobo to close at N214.98 kobo, PZ Industries followed with a gain of N2.01 kobo to close at N35.00 while Stanbic IBTC, UAC property and Oando Plc advanced by N1.60 kobo, N1.32 kobo and N1.22 kobo to close at N33.60 kobo, N15.85 kobo and N26.28 kobo.    On the contrary, Seplat Petroleum Development topped losers chart, shedding N22.00 to close at N645.00, Nestle Nigeria Plc trailed with a loss of N10.00 to close at N1090.00 while Lafarge Wapco declined by N1.89 kobo to close at N126.76 kobo.

Other companies that recorded price appreciation were Glaxosmith and Nigerian Breweries as it dropped by N1.39 kobo and N1.26 kobo respectively to close at N62.61 kobo and N176.00.  Further analysis of the trading showed that financial service sector led the activities for the day, exchanging 856.858 million shares worth N4.699 billion in 2487 deals.
Banking sub sector was the most active in the sector with account of 764.344 million shares valued at N4.116 billion in 1502 deals.
Skye Bank was the toast of investors as it traded 614.889 million shares worth N1.479 billion in 167 deals. Zenith International Bank came second in the sub sector accounting for 51.613 million shares valued at N1.267 billion while GTBank exchanged 32.832 million shares worth N976.399 million in 368 deals. Conglomerates sector enhanced by Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp) followed in daily activities as it sold 53.393 million shares cost N667.840 million in 366 deals
