Equity market sustains bearish run, loses N232bn

Investment in the nation’s equity market yesterday sustained bearish run, dropping N232 billion.

Specifically, Market Capitalisation of listed equities declined by 1.27 per cent to N18.072 trillion from N18.304 trilliin reported the previous day.

The Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share index also depreciated by 443.95 basis points to 34557.26 points from 35021.21 recorded on Wednesday.

Investors traded 553.949 million shares valued at N6.638 billion in 5441 deals against 283.090 million shares worth N3.420 billion exchanged hands the previous day in 3855 deals.

An analysis of the transactions showed that Okomuoil led gainers table, gaining N8.00 to close at N88.00, Glaxosmith followed with a gain of N0.10 kobo to close at N6.70 kobo, Unilever Nigeria Plc gained N0.05 kobo to close at N13.05 kobo, FTN Cocoa gained N0.03 kobo to clise at N0.40 kobo, Mutual Benefits Insurance added N0.02 kobo to close at N0.24 kobo.

On the contrary, Wapco topped losers chart during the day, dropping by N2 25 kobo to close at N20.25 kobo, Guinness Nigeria Plc trailed with a loss of N1.75 kobo to close at N16.05 kobo, Zenith Bank fell by N1.45 kobo to close at N22.00, Dangote Sugar Refinery down by N1.30 kobo to close at N17.61 kobo, MTN Nigeria Communication dropped by N1.20 kobo to close at N155.00.
