Equity market opens positive, gains N138bn

Transactions on the floor of Nigerian Exchange on Monday opened bullish, appreciating by N138 billion as gainers dominated the market.

Market capitalization of listed equities increased by 0.23 per cent to N59.245 trillion from N59.107 trillion reported the previous day.

The positive performance during the day was driven by gain recorded in the shares of Eterna Plc, Nigerian Breweries, AccessCorp, PZ, Transnational Corporation, United Bank for Africa, Wapco Plc.

An analysis of the investment showed that  three companies, Wapco,  Abbey Building Society and Afriprudential led gainers’ table, appreciating by 10 per cent each to close at N63.80  , N2.64  and N9.90  per share respectively.

VFD group followed with a gain of 9.88 per cent to close at N44.50 per unit, Sovereign Trust Insurance added 9.59 per cent to close at N0.80 per share.

On the contrary, Etranzact topped losers chart, dropping by 10 per cent to close at N6.75 per unit, NCR trailed with a loss of 9.92 per cent to close at N4.27 per share, FTNCocoa fell by 8.29 per cent to close at N1.77 per unit, Honey Well Floor dipped by 5.92 per cent to close at N4.45 per shares, NPF micro finance banks down by 4.46 per cent to close at N1.50 per unit.

Volume of trades increased by 64.329 million, representing 12.48 per cent as investors traded 451.165 million shares valued at N10.150 billion in 9329 deals.

Trading activities on Japaul Gold led market activities with 72.034 million shares valued at N161.801 millions n United Bank for Africa followed with 67.868 million shares worth N2.234 billion, AccessCorp traded 53.627 million shares valued at N1.245 billion, Wapco exchanged 21.265 million shares worth N1.365 billion while GTCO Plc sold 20.916 million shares cost N1.097 billion.
