Equity market increases by N319bn

Transactions on the fl oor of the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) last week sustained growth by N319 billion. Specifi cally, market capitalization of listed equities increased by 3.27 per cent to N10.064 trillion from N9.745 trillion recorded the previous week. Th e Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 951.14 basis points to 29064.52 points against 28113.38 traded the previous week. Similarly, all other Indices closed higher during the week with the exception of the NSE Oil/Gas Index that depreciated by 0.89 per cent while the NSE ASeM Index closed fl at at 1,195.56. the NSE Premium Index increased by 68.80 to 1,837.87, the NSE-Main Board Index went up by 40.53 to 1,347.59, NSE 30 Index went up by 47.71 to 1,337.60 , NSE Banking Index rose by 25.69 basis points to 361.97, NSE Insurance Index gained 4.79 basis points to 132.68, NSE Consumer Goods Index added 12.14 to 720.73, NSE Lotus II advanced by 18.69 to 1,823.95, NSE Industrial Goods Index grew by 2.25 basis points to 1,697.98 and NSE Pension Index appreciated by 44.85 to 1,010.10 points Th e result showed that investors traded a total turnover of 1.877 billion shares worth N20.055 billion in 19,979 deals in contrast to a total of 2.271 billion shares valued at N32.647 billion that exchanged hands last week in 20,710 deals.

Th e Financial Services Industry led the activity chart with 1.629 billion shares valued at N14.501 billion traded in 11,893 deals; thus contributing 86.80 per cent and 72.30 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. Th e Consumer Goods Industry followed with account of 57.531 million shares worth N2.189 billion in 2,616 deals. Th e third position was occupied by Conglomerates Industry with a total of 52.220 million shares worth N101.384 million in 789 deals. Trading in the Top Th ree Equities namely – Diamond Bank Plc, Access Bank Plc and Zenith International Bank Plc (measured by volume) accounted for 799.472 million shares worth N6.103 billion in 3,313 deals, contributing 42.60 per cent and 30.43 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively
