Equity market gains N112bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday closed year in a positive trend, gaining N112 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities increased by 0.87 per cent to N12.958 trillion from N12.846 trillion reported on Monday.

The market cap also increased by N1.238 billion compared with N11.720 trillion it closed in 2018.

The NSE All Share Index also increased by 232.73 basis points to 26842.07 points from 26609.34 recorded the previous day. 

The NSE ASI for the year dipped byb4588.43 basis points or 14.59 per cent compared with 31430.50 points it opened for the year

Investors traded 1.053 billion shares worth N5.496 billion in 2445 deals against 382.807 million shares valued at N7.188 billion in 3312 deals.

A review of the transactions showed that Seplat Petroleum Development Company led gainers table during the day gaining N59.80 kobo to close at N657.80 kobo, Stanbic IBTC followed with a gain of N2.00 to close at N41.00, Wapco gained N1.30 kobo to close at N15.30 kobo, Guaranty Trust Bank added N0.70 kobo to close at N29.70 kobo, Okomu Oil Palm gained N0.60 kobo to close at N55.60 kobo.

On the contrary, Nigerian Breweries recorded the highest loss for the day, dropping by N0.75 kobo to close at N59.00, UDPC Reits trailed with a loss of N0.45 kobo to close at N4.25 kobo, Dangote Sugar Refinery fell by N0.20 kobo to close at N13.60 kobo, FBNHoldings down by N0.20 kobo to close at N6.15 kobo, Africa Prudential declined by N0.18 kobo to close N4.00.
