Equity market depletes further, sheds N16bn


Investment in the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Tuesday sustained declining profile following loses recorded by capitalied stocks, forcing the market to shed N16 billion

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities declined by 0.14 per cent  to N11.591 trillion from N11.607 trillion traded the previous day. 

The NSE All Share Index dropped to  31082.32 points from 31125.39 points reported on Monday. 

Investors traded 286.899 million shares worth N3.094 billion in 3924 deals against 205.725 million shares valued at  N1.925 billion exchanged hands in 3821 deals.

A breakdown of the investment for the day showed that Mobil Plc led gainers table during the day appreciating by N4.00 to N170.00, Guaranty Trust Bank followed with a gain of N1.45 kobo to close at N36.85 kobo, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated gained N0.30 kobo to close at N13.80 kobo, FCMB group added N0.12 kobo to close at N1.92 kobo, Access Bank increased by N0.10 kobo to close at N5.95 kobo.

On the contrary, Nestle Nigeria Plc  recorded the highest loss during the day, dropping by N18.20 kobo to close at N1526.60 kobo, Presco Plc trailed with a loss of N7.00 to close at N68.00, Nigerian Breweries down by N5.00 to close at N70.00, Glaxosmith Kline sheds N1.05 kobo to close at N10.50 kobo, Dangote Cement declined by N0.50 kobo to close at N189.40 kobo.

Further breakdown indicated that Access Bank was the most active stock during the day, exchanging 84.673 million shares worth N500.042 million, United Bank for Africa followed trading 40.905 million shares cost N307.882 million, Zenith Bank sold 22.153 million shares valued at N482.911 million, Guaranty Trust Bank exchanged 22.064 million shares valued at N796.956 million while Chams Plc sold a total of 20.050 million shares valued at N4.010 million.
