Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Tuesday closed on a negative note, shedding N136 billion.
Market capitalisation of listed equities sheds 0.22 per cent to N62.763 trillion from N62.899 trillion reported the previous day.
The NGX All Share Index also depreciated by 222.93 basis points to 102926.40 points from 103149.35 points traded the previous day.
The NGX trading result showed that although 36 companies closed in green, but losses in the shares of 27 firms wipe out the gains recorded during the day bringing the year to date return to 37.65 per cent.
The NGX trading result for the year showed that the market that opened the year at N40.917 trillion appreciated by N21.85 trillion or 53.39 per cent to close at N62.763 trillion while the index up by 28152.67 basis points to close the year at 102926.40 points against 74773.73 points it opened in January 2024.
An analysis of the investment showed that, three companies -Prestige insurance , Betaglass and Universal insurance recorded highest gains in percentage terms during the day, appreciating by 10 per cent each to close at N1.21 , N64.90 and N0.66 per unit respectively, Okomuoil followed with a gain of 9.98 per cent to close at N444.00 per unit, while Thomas Way added 9.88 per cent to close at N1.89 per share.
On the contrary, Union Dicon and Eterna Plc topped losers chart, declining 10 per cent each to close at N7.20 and N24.30 per unit respectively, Champion Breweries trailed with a loss of 8.19 per cent to close at N3.81 per unit, PZ Cusson fell by 6.10 per cent to close at N24.30 per unit, Cadbury Nigeria Plc dipped by6.52 per cent to close at N21.50 per share.
Volume of transactions declined by 203.359 million , representing 31.72 per cent as investors traded 437.758 million shares cost N40.335 billion in 8830 deals against 641.117 million shares worth N15.496 billion exchanged hands in 13778 deals.
Transactions in the shares of AccessCorp led market activities with 30.255 million shares valued at N723.888 million, Universal insurance followed with account of 24.625 million shares cost N16.101 million, Prestige insurance traded 24.250 million shares worth N29.253 million, SkyAvn traded 22.149 million shares cost N662.187 million, Aradel Plc exchanged 21.720 million shares cost N12.967 million.
