Ebira People’s Association (EPA) has called on the federal government to ensure the timely completion of Ajaokuta Steel project, abandoned for over 30 years.
In a statement signed by the President-General of the association, Dr. Abdurrahaman Adeiza , the body pointed out that the steel complex represents the surest route to Nigeria’s industrialisation, adding that the hope of millions of Nigerians depended on the completion of the steel complex, which he described as “germane to the nation’s industrial development”.
While commending the Buhari administration for steps taken so far towards revitalising the Ajaokuta steel complex, the association decried “the neglect the project had suff ered under previous administrations as a result of greed, lack of political will and high-wired international conspiracy”.
EPA commended Buhari over the recent appointment of Engr. Sumaila AbdulAka’aba, as the Sole Administrator of the steel company and called on the new boss of the steel company to consider the interest of the people ahead of every other thing in the discharge of his responsibilities.
Th e body urged AbdulAka’aba to live up to the high expectations of the host community and all Nigerians.
Th e association also praised the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr.
Kayode Fayemi, for his determination to ensure the completion of the project, as demonstrated by his role in the landmark settlement between the federal government and the former concessionaires, which set the stage for the completion of the steel complex.
