Enugu community offers scholarship to 15 indigent students

The Bridge Foundation for Peace and Unity, an Enugu based nongovernmental organisation, has offered scholarship to 15 indigent but brilliant students up to the university level for students of Enugu Ngwo, Enugu North local government area of the state.
The foundation is the brain child of an education lover, Mrs Miracle Ihunanya Chukwuka-Eze.
The lucky students who were the best five were picked from the Senior Secondary Schools, SS1, SS2 SS3, would be getting N100,000.00 each and would be spaced for every term till the duration of their programme.
The scholarship award will cover tuition, books, uniforms and feeding allowance on a termly basis.
As the students continue to perform in their academics, they would be trained up to their first degree in the university.
The lucky winners emerged victorious after passing aptitude test for the maiden award for 2018/2019 academic year.
Speaking at the first maiden award ceremony at Enugu Ngwo at the weekend, attended by parents of the lucky students, prominent Ngwo indigenes as well as the traditional ruler of Enugu Ngwo, Igwe Charles Ayalogu, Secretary of the Foundation, Bro.
John Enwu said that the scholarship award was the first of its kind for students to go through aptitude tests to qualify.
Enwu said that the Foundation was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and poised to help train brilliant but indigent students to attain academic heights.
He explained that forty-two students sat for the aptitude test but only the best 15 were selected.
Also speaking at the occasion, a representative of the consultancy firm, Cresspoint Consultancy, who conducted the aptitude test for the Foundation, Mrs Nonye Umahi, commended the Foundation for coming up with the initiative and also the students for the manner they comported themselves during the test.
Umahi explained that the students were selected based on competence, saying that it was not manipulated to favour anybody.
Umahi who lamented that the standard of education was dwindling, urged the lucky awardees to study hard to continue to benefit from the scholarship.
She said that the conditions for them to continue to enjoy the scholarship was for them to take their studies seriously and to be above average in their academic performance.
Other conditions include that at the end of every academic session, they must submit a copy of their academic report to authenticate their academic performance.
In addition, they must be of good character in and out of the school environment.
