#EndSARS protests: PDP seeks comprehensive police reforms, compensation for victims

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared in Abuja Thursday that the Federal Government should urgently carry a comprehensive police reforms to stem the ongoing protests across the country.
The National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche, Secondus, made this assertion while answering questions from reporters after the leadership of the PDP met with its Senate Caucus.

He said the party discussed the nomination of President Muhammadu Buhari’s media aide, Lauretta Onochie, as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) but has decided not to emphasise it.
“That (Onochie’s nomination) was discussed and I believe that the Senate has dealt with the issue of nomination so we don’t need to emphasise on it,” he said.

He added that the issue of EndSARS and SWAT were also discussed and resolved that a comprehensive police and policing reforms will be an answer to the problems at hand as far as Police brutality is concerned.
“We also endorse the five terms raised by the protesters. We also appeal to the government that adequate compensation to the families should be given.
“I believe that when that is done and comprehensive reform is done and the rule of law as it pertains to criminal justice system in our country where everyone will be assured of protection of lives and property.
“That is the way to go in our country. That will bring sanity in our country and that will make the problem of brutality, thing of the past,” he said.
