Emotional’ Peseiro bids Super Eagles bye as contract expires

Coach Jose Peseiro on Friday officially bid farewell to Nigeria and Super Eagles after his contract with Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ended.

The Portuguese tactician while conveying an emotional-laden message to the various country’s football stakeholders via his social media app, X, wrote, “Yesterday, we concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honor to coach the Super Eagles. It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfillment.

“We would like to express our gratitude  to Sir Amaju Pinnick (the President who signed us), President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the staff and especially all the players, with whom leading has been a great pleasure.

“Guys, we are thankful; it has been a privilege to be part of this family. We will miss you, but we will always be there for you, no matter where you are. A big hug to all of you.”

Officially, Peseiro’s contract with the Super Eagles ended after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February 2024.

At the moment, the leadership of NFF is shopping for a new coach for the country’s senior men National team, though there were reports that it has tabled a new offer before Peseiro who claims to be wanted by other teams in Africa.

Nigeria finished second at the 34th edition of AFCON, hosted and won by Cote d’ivoire.
