Electricity vandal gets one-year jail term in Kaduna

In its continued efforts to tackle the spate of vandalism of power infrastructure, Kaduna Electric has secured the conviction of one Ibrahim Mohammed, who was found guilty of vandalizing the company’s electricity installations in Gidan Daji community, Kaduna.

Announcing the verdict, the Chief Magistrate, Court 2, Daura Road, Kaduna, sentenced the culprit to a 12-month prison term. Additionally, the court also ordered him to pay ₦1,500,000 as compensation to Kaduna Electric for the damages caused.

This conviction underscores Kaduna Electric’s commitment to safeguarding its assets and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to its customers. The company remains steadfast in the fight against vandalism and electricity theft and urges communities to lend support in that regard.

Speaking on the development, the Deputy Managing Director, Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed, applauded the courage of the Chief Magistrate, describing it as “highly patriotic. We strongly believe that the judgement will serve as a deterrent to those who may be nursing the intention of vandalizing power supply infrastructure,” he said

He, however, reaffirmed the company’s commitment in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to bring perpetrators to justice. “Vandalism not only disrupts power supply but also endangers lives and affects economic activities. This conviction is a clear message that such acts will not go unpunished,” he warned.

Kaduna Electric urges communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities around electricity installations.
