There has been power blackout in parts of Nasarawa state and environs in the last two weeks, forcing residents and business premises to seek alternative means.
Checks by Blueprint showed that Lafia, the state capital, is the most hit by the outage as most residents now depend solely on generating sets.
A look round the city in the night showed that unlike before when load shedding was usually observed, but now almost the entire city has been thrown into darkness.
Most residents who spoke to our correspondent expressed bitterness that despite paying huge amounts of electricity bills monthly services rendered were epileptic.
Dahiru Saleh of Lungun Wambai said the privatisation of the power station “appears to be a huge loss as it has not enhanced efficiency.”
Donatus Caleb who resides along Makurdi Road, however, attributed the problem to the recent thunder storm which he said affected some of the cables outside the state and appealed for urgent repairs.
Keffi, Doma, and Wamba local government areas also complained of similar outage as most of the residents said they had since lodged complaints to the authorities concerned.
When Blueprint visited the PHCN office along Makurdi Road, no officer was willing to talk, but an engineer, who pleaded anonymity, said engineers were working round the clock to restore power.
He attributed what he described as “natural occurrence” due to the rainy season, saying that before Friday “everything would be normal.”
