Electricity Bill: Power no longer a luxury but necessity – Kebbi speaker

The speaker, Kebbi state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, Wednesday, said unfettered access to electricity is no longer a luxury but a necessity for life.

Hon. Zuru made the remark at the opening of a public hearing on the Kebbi State Electricity Bill 2024, submitted to the House for approval, by Governor Nasir Idris.

He stated that the bill underscored collective efforts towards improving infrastructure and service delivery, particularly in critical area of electricity.

“The bill is in response to growing need for reliable, affordable and sustainable power, essential for development of all sectors of the economy.

“It reflects commitment to creating a legal framework that will promote electricity generation, distribution and regulation, while fostering private sector participation and investment.

“Access to electricity is no longer a luxury but a necessity as it fuels industry, powers education, drives innovation and improves the quality of life of our people.

“Yet, despite government’s best efforts, many communities in Kebbi state still face persistent challenges in relation to power supply, affecting their productivity and economic opportunities,” the speaker declared.
