El-Rufai warns on rejection, poor welfare of corps members

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna state has warned public and private organisations in the state against rejecting corps members posted to them for their primary assignment, while urging for good welfare for corps members.

El-Rufai, who assured the youth corps members of adequate security throughout their stay in the state, said that the organisations must cater for the accommodation and transportation of the youth corps members, if they stay far from their place of primary assignment.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Daniel Danauta, at the closing ceremony of 2017 batch A stream II National Youth Service Corp orientation course along Kaduna-Abuja highway, the governor said the state government “is committed to renovating and expanding the orientation camp to ensure that the number youth corps members deployed to the state is increased from over 2,000 to 5,000.”

He said: “All employers of corps labour in the state are hereby encouraged to accept corps members posted to them and assist them to settle down as quickly as possible to serve the nation here in Kaduna state. Rejection of corps members is against the spirit and noble intentions behind the establishment of the scheme.

“Acceptance at the point of primary assignment is a must. It is a law for government institutions, organisations and private sectors that no organisation should reject corps member except with acceptable cogent reason. The welfare of corps members including accommodation and transportation where it calls for it is your responsibility once you receive corps members.”

State Coordinator NYSC, Malam Bello Bulama, in his remarks, urged corps members to accept their postings gladly and do their best to integrate with members of their host communities, “to appreciate, understand and respect their various cultures and traditions.”

He tasked them to bring to bear all that they had learnt during the three-week orientation at the camp.
