Ekiti recruits neighbourhood inspectors to monitor schools

The Ekiti government has set the machinery in motion for the recruitment of neighbourhood inspectors in the state. The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Foluso Daramola, said the machinery was set up to ensure effective monitoring of schools.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti Thursday during the inauguration of a five-man committee for the recruitment, Daramola stressed the importance of monitoring in schools as a major step towards effective service delivery.

The commissioner explained that the state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, was fully committed to the complete overhaul and repositioning of the education sector in the state.

Daramola, who said, “education is globally regarded as a veritable tool for social transformation,” noted that one of the major impediments to quality teaching and  learning activities in schools was inadequate monitoring and supervision.

 The commissioner disclosed that the paradigm shift from the old practice of school inspection to monitoring and evaluating process that provides a new operation mode of evaluation was taking root in the state.

Daramola said his ministry would ensure that evaluation process and practices are carried out according to the standards that bring about improvement in teaching and learning.

He informed the members of the committee that “it is time to chart a new course to catapult education to the next level so as to reclaim and restore our lost values in the education sector.”

The commissioner disclosed that “the committee is expected to screen and interview applicants on the basis of set down criteria to subject all applicants to the same condition during the interview and screening exercises. The committee is to recommend suitable applicants for the job based on their performances in the screening exercises.”

Earlier in his remarks, Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr James Owolabi said his office had received about 350 applications from the 16 local government areas of the state.
