Ekiti 2014: Fayemi accuses Jonathan of ensuring Fayose’s emergence

Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of masterminding the emergence of Ayo Fayose as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the June 21 governorship election in the state, “all in a bid unleash violence on the state.”
A statement by the spokesperson of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Dimeji Daniels, yesterday in Ado-Ekiti alleged that Fayose was teleguided to win the PDP primaries “because of his anti-democratic credentials of violence; a clear pointer that the Presidency and the PDP have perfected strategies to rig the June 21 governorship election.”

Daniels said: “What this means is that the Jonathan presidency and the PDP have no sense of history regarding Ekiti people. Ekiti people have been known to resist shady characters.
“By throwing up such a candidate in a race that should involve decent people, the PDP is clearly spitting on the grave of Tunde Omojola, who on May 28, 2005, was mowed down in Ifaki-Ekiti. On this same day, a rally of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) at Matthew Street in Ado-Ekiti was disrupted. The likes of Chief George Akosile are still alive to relive the story.”

In a swift reaction, the Chairman, Publicity Committee Ayo Fayose Campaign Organisation, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan said: “It is not true that Mr President planned to foist Ayo Fayose on Ekiti; I don’t want anybody to bring Mr President to this issue.”

He added: “PDP members in Ekiti have decided for a candidate of their choice, which the party constitution and electoral act recognised as the procedure for nominating a candidate of political party.
“If Fayemi is alleging that Fayose is being foisted on Ekiti, it goes to show that he is jittery.”
