EFCC to sponsor 20 PhD holders on corruption research

Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has said beginning from January next year, and over the next 10 years, it would sponsor 20 doctorate degree holders to research on corruption.

Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, when he paid a courtesy visit to the National Universities Commission (NUC). According to him, “EFCC will from January 2018 till the next 10years, sponsor up to 20 PH.D researches on any aspect of corruption.

” Magu also advocated inclusion anti-corruption study at the undergraduate level, saying: “Whether one is studying accounting or building engineering, food sciences or marine biology, political science or pharmacy, being exposed to a rigorous and evidence based knowledge of corruption and its consequences on polity and economy as well as individual self esteem would be benefi cial to the nation, the community and individual.

” Against this backdrop, Magu said he was at NUC to advise the Commission to introduce anti-corruption curricula in all the nation’s universities for fresh undergraduates irrespective of course or discipline.

He said the EFCC would also support the publication of manuscripts relevant to the teaching of the anti corruption courses, adding: “Th e university system is very important and we want to target the youth because they are the benefi ciaries of whatever we are doing for the next generation.

” Responding NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, said the commission would soon commence consultations with academics and critical stakeholders on the best way the course could be imputed into the curricula.’
