Kebbi state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero, has identified acute shortage of teachers, infrastructure and facilities as the factors responsible for total collapse of education in the state.
He disclosed this yesterday in a position paper he presented at a one-day education retreat in Birnin Kebbi.
Magawata lamented that despite the acute shortage of teachers, the state had been demoralised by lack of promotion, implementation, insufficient teaching/learning facilities and other conditions of service.

“Quality assurance mechanism have virtually collapse, with unmotivated and ill-equipped school inspectors and supervisors,” he said, adding that the result had been massive failure in school Certificate Examinations and very low scores in JAMB.”
However, the commissioner called for the immediate revival of Pivotal Teacher Training programmes to meet the demands of primary schools, and also to enable the unqualified teachers presently handling the schools to be get qualification.
Also speaking the Commissioner for High Education, Alhaji Maigari Abdullahi, said the ministry being responsible for tertiary education had a greater role to play in providing qualified teachers from the College of Education (COE) and the university.
