Edo: Renewed cult clash leaves 3 dead

Suspected cultists have reportedly shot three persons to death in Edo state, while one other was said to have sustained life threatening injury.

Blueprint gathered that two of the victims were said to have been killed at Obagie community in ikpoba Okha local government area of the state

They  third victim was however, reportedly shot dead at his betting shop at Second East circular road, 150 meters away from Esigie police division station.

In a viral video of the incident at Obagie community, two of the victims were simply identified as Eze and Bobor, while the victim of second East circular shooting was identified as Romeo.

It was learnt that Eze and Bobor were driving in their Lexus jeep on Saturday when gunmen accosted them and immediately opened fire on them.

Romeo on the other hand was killed on Monday by a three -man armed gang.

A source who craved anonimity said the renewed cult clash was fueled by land tussle between Amagba and Obagie communities.

The source said: “You know it is impossible for ordinary man to engage in violent communal tussle. So, you should know that anyone at the forefront is not ordinary.

“These (killings) are the spillover effect because lives had been lost in the cause of communal tussle.’  

Spokesman for Edo State Police command, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the clash.

According to him, “Edo State police Command is doing something about the suspected secret cult fighting in the State.

“The command is soliciting for information from the citizens as the police cannot  do it alone.

“Modern day policing requires inputs from the citizen and communities in the area of information to nip crime in the bud.”
