Edo PDP group laments ‘insecurity, drop in IGR’

The Peoples Democratic Party Action Group, PDP (AG), has raised the alarm over what it described as the spate of insecurity and drop in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), urging the Governor Monday Okpebholo administration to live up to its billing.

In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, the convener, Ogbeide I. faluyi-Isibor, lamented that the state GDP has slipped from $25 billion as of October to about $17.6 billion, wondering how the local economy would be effectively run.

The group, which rued the “spate of killing and kidnapping in the state,” cited “dwindling in health, social and economic, transportation and other services,” demanded accountability.

The statement read in part, “We the members of the support group called “PDP Action Group” are worried that the social and economic atmosphere in Edo today has been unfriendly to the citizens and investors-alike.

“Therefore, we are desirous to see a 24 hours surveillance of hot spots in order to prevent a situation where kidnappers would now turn Edo to their safe haven.

“Our concern also stemmed from the fact that our IGR has dropped significantly, just as the state revenue drive and small businesses are at the receiving end.”
