Edo guber poll: Group wants Buhari to call APC’s NWC to order

A social-cultural group, Edo Unity League, Thursday appealed to president Muhammadu Buhari to override the decision of the National Working Committee (APC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt direct mode of primary for Edo state governorship poll.
The group said President Buhari in his capacity as the leader of APC National Executive Committee (NEC) is the approving authority of all proposals by the NWC.

National facilitator of the group, Comrade Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo, disclosed this at a press conference in Benin City, the state capital.
Edokpolo said, “It’s appropriate to respectfully sensitize the NWC and NEC of the security and health safety in this unfortunate era of COVID-19 pandemic.

“By the relevant sections of quarantine law,  the president and governors have constitutional powers to re-order all human and vehicular activities in a manner that will guarantee the social security and safety of citizens.
“No responsible government will tolerate schedule of activities that clearly have the potentials of fatalities as COVID -19 pandemic presents.”
The facilitator also said the NWC was not a law to itself. He then called for a review of the of the mode of primary in favor of indirect primaries.
According to him,  in the indirect primary,  the over 3,500 delegates and INEC officials can be effectively coordinated in one or two centres in Benin City within the extant rule of social distancing.
