Edo guber: Governorship candidate withdraws, declares support for APC

The governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in the September 21 election in Edo state, Prince Tom Iseghohi-Okojie, and his running mate, Deaconess Mabel Onaiwu, have announced their withdrawal from the election.

The duo also directed their supporters to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, at the poll.

Flanked by party members and supporters, Tom  and Mabel who  stated this at a joint press conference in Benin City Sunday said their decision was  in the best interest of the state.

Tom who addressed the press said he took the decision after careful reflection during which he realised that aligning with the APC, under Okpevbolo’s leadership was the best path forward for Edo.

He stated that the PDP has had its opportunity, “but unfortunately, they have not succeeded in bringing the progress our state needs.

“While I could continue my candidacy, it became clear to me that the best way to deliver on the promise of change for Edo is to unite with a capable leader who can lead us to victory.

“He embodies this kind of leadership. He may not dazzle crowds with flashy speeches, but he is strategic, thoughtful, and deeply connected to his people.”
