Edo govt tasks group on wealth-creation

Edo state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Macdonald Obasuke, has charged the Benin Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BENCCIMA) on wealth creation.

Macdonald, who stated this during the 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the group in Benin City, said the call was to compliment government effort in the area of employment generation.

The industrialist used the meeting to elect executive members for the association with Chief Benjamin Ezekwere and Mrs. Aina Omo-Ojonu emerging as its president and vice president, respectively.

Represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Ms. Osayuware Idahosa, the Commission said the state government was working round the clock to meet all financial statutory requirements to access the offer of N220 billion loans to Small and Medium Scale enterprise by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

According to him, “each state is entitled to a minimum of N2 billion; and participants will obtain the loan at 15 percent rate per year.”
On his part, the newly elected president of the association, Ezekwere lamented the loss of N1, 020, 000 property rent of BECCIMA’s property to some fleeing tenants.
