Edo: Etsako Central LG boss moves to tackle water crisis in Fugar

The newly appointed Etsako Central Local Government Area Liaison Officer (LO), Hon Ambrose Kelvin Akhigbe has hit the ground running in his efforts to address the perennial challenges of water scarcity faced by the people of Fugar, the headquarters of the local government area and its environs.

The LO, who described the lingering water shortage as unacceptable, said his administration has decided to tackle the situation head-on, affirming that the people of Fugar will soon have a sigh of relief over the challenges before the end of January.

Hon Akhigbe spoke during an on the spot assessment tour of the Fugar Water Board Station II water supply scheme in Avhiarua on the Ogbona – Auchi road, in the company of Hon. Damian Lawani, the candidate of the PDP for Edo state House of Assembly, Etsako Central constituency in order to carry out immediate repairs of the borehole which has broken down since February, 2022.

While sympathising with the people over the prolonged disrepair of the water facility, he said his administration would put all necessary machinery in place to fix the facility which supplies water to more than half the population of Fugar without delay.

He said, “We are here to inspect the Fugar water supply scheme to ascertain the challenges faced by the scheme in order to offer a lasting solution to it.”

According to him, it is unacceptable that Fugar has been experiencing water scarcity with 1,500 litres of water selling for between N3, 500 and N4, 000.

The Etsako Central boss said “Water is life and as such, it is a sin to deprive people access to potable water therefore, the government is going to facilitate the necessary repairs needed this month to ensure the scheme becomes functional again for the people to enjoy their life.

“Fresh water is necessary for the survival of all living organisms on Earth. Our bodies are made up of about 60% water and we cannot survive more than a few days without it and denying our people life is a cardinal sin.”

A staff of the water board, Emokhor Julius, had earlier informed the visiting LG boss and his entourage that the water supply had stopped working since last year February, 2022 and explained that the he challenge was caused by cable damage, generator failures and disconnection from the PHCN due to the huge debt owed the power transmission company by the water scheme.
