Edo: Asue/Ogie campaign council tasks police on professionalism

The Asue/Ogie Diaspora Campaign Council has charged the Police and other security agencies to discharge their duties with the highest level of professionalism and impartiality in next Saturday’s governorship election in Edo state.

The council said security agencies must respect the rule of law, protect citizens, maintain peace, and not create fear or manipulate the voting process in any guise.

The Deputy Director-General of the council, Mr. Raymond Osaremen in company of members from various Diaspora countries, made the demand Monday at a press conference in Benin City.

Osaremen stated that any form of voters’ intimidation, harassment, or coercion by law enforcement agencies, or any individual or group is unacceptable to the council.

He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue its commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent, and credible election process.

Osaremen added: “Any report of irregularities or malpractice must be swiftly investigated, and any individual found to be compromising the electoral process should be held accountable.”
