Dozens of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in ward one, Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state, Saturday defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors were led by Sidney Egede, a chieftain of the APC in the ward.
Egede said they left APC because according to him, the party’s candidate lack the prerequisites to compete and win the forthcoming governorship election.
He pledged to work for the victory of the PDP candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, and assured that more of APC members in the ward would join the party before the September 21, election.
Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media projects, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, joined the Commissioner of Justice, Oluwole Uzzi who is also from Oredo ward one.
Uzzi who received the decampees, commended them for their bold decision to move with the train of development.
He noted that Asue Ighodalo and and his running mate, Barr. Osarodion Ogie, are the most qualified and competent people to succeed outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Commissioner urged the people of the ward to appreciate and reward Governor Obaseki for his magnanimity of appointing two persons from the ward into strategic positions of the government.
Also, the governor’s media aide, Osagie, discribed the development as a major boost for the PDP, noting that it signified the end of APC in the ward.
According to him, “a vote for Barrister Asue Ighodalo and Barrister Osarodion Ogie as the governor and deputy, Edo state is again poised for more development.”
