Ebonyi tasks workers on ‘one man one hectare’ farming

Ebonyi state government, Friday, task workers to key into the one man one hectare agricultural programme of the state, stating it would help improve their standard of living and reduce over dependency on oil revenue in the country.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Barrister Kelechi Igwe, disclosed this in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, to mark 2020 Worker’s Day.

 Igwe, who congratulated Ebonyi workers on the May Day celebration, described Nigerian workers as drivers of the country’s economy.

The statement read in part, “On this auspicious occasion of 2020 Worker’s Day celebration I join well meaning Nigerians to felicitate with workers. Today is indeed another milestone in the annals of workers as it presents another opportunity to reappraise their individual and collective contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria at large and Ebonyi state in particular.

“Nigerian workers have remained key drivers in the development of all sectors of Nigerian economy in the face of daunting challenges confronting the nation at this point. They have remained one of the most dedicated, resilient and hardworking in the world by being positive and dependable partners in Nation building.

“While I appreciate Ebonyi workers for putting our dear state on the path of greatness, may I appeal to them to key into life touching policies of the present administration especially the “one man one hectare.

“This will in addition to improving their standard of living, boost the economic and revenue base of the state.  To achieve this I urge them to leverage on the agricultural loans as part of efforts to improve the welfare of workers.”

On the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic the deputy governor said, “I wish to use this medium to appeal to our workers to take necessary precautionary measures including regular hand washing, social distancing, and use of personal protective equipment such as hand sanitizer and face masks. Together, we shall soon come out of the menace of the global pandemic as you complement efforts of government towards this direction.”
