Ebonyi second to last in federal allocation – ALGON

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Ebonyi state chapter Wednesday said the state is among the least paid in the Federal Allocation (FAC).

ALGON disclosed this through its state chairman, Chief Moses Ogodoali Nomeh when he received the members of Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his office, Abakaliki.

Mr. Nomeh noted that the state was the highest in paying Value Added Tax (VAT) in the South-east despite its low monthly allocation from the federal government.

Chief Nomeh who is the chairman of Ezza North local government said despite receiving low allocation, the state has done better than other states of the federation.

He opined that local government chairmen in the state will have many legacies before the end of their two-year tenure as according to him, they have done so well in various sectors of governance.

“Ebonyi State pays the highest VAT in the whole of South-east, the records are there. And as I speak, we are not the poorest in terms of individual empowerment in the whole South-east let alone the country.

“We are second to the last in terms of federal allocation, Ebonyi receives low allocation from the federal government but the state is doing wonderfully well,” he said.

Earlier, the Acting Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) in the state, Uchenna Inya said the journalists engaged in investigative and developmental journalism as part of their social responsibilities.
