National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), has urged the federal government to put in more funds to the Agency to enable it work efficiently in other to create more centers.
This was stated during an exclusive interview with Blueprint in Abuja, the Assistance Director, Research and Technical Secretary in NASRDA, Dr. Benjamin Ayantunji said when earthquake occurs there is actual breakage of substructure under the surface of earth which is called earth tremor.
According to him, as this plate moves there are times that the force that occurs under the earth is the release of energy is the cause of earthquake and it is these release of energy that cause breakage which is called earthquake.
“The environment challenges of both disasters is that, it leads to destruction of properties and loose of lives and it causes deformation of the earth surface and that earthquake cause changes on the structure of the earth,” he stressed.
According to Ayantunji, the agency has the capability to study and predict the pattern of what is going to happen, tell those living in that area to be careful and pass necessary information.
“The devastating effect of this disasters, depending on where it occurs, if it occurs in a place that is not populated you will not feel the effect but if it occurs where you have high rising in that area and the energy is much because of that shaking and you will see damage on the structure and that is when you see lost of life,” he added.
He said: tremor itself may something be a warning to a bigger thing which is earthquake, if earth tremor occurs continually in a location that is a pointer because when this energy pile up in the earth surfaces it look for a way to releases itself. When you see earth tremor occurring continually, know that something bigger is coming.
