E- Ticketing system has eased tax collections – FIRS

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has attributed the ease in collecting taxes from Nigerians to the newly introduced E-system that was adopted by the agency to enhance tax collection.

The agency disclosed that the introduction of the engagement and enlightenment unit of the FIRS has equally helped in no small measure in tax collections.

The Team Leader, Federal Engagement and Enlightenment Unit, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Udoh Dan, made this declaration in Abuja at a programme tagged: “Follow taxes ”organized by the Yali Transparency and Good Governance.
According to Dan, the new initiative has led to the blockage of loopholes earlier witnessed in the course of collecting taxes from Nigerians.

“ Before now, we were using this normal paper work, but with the introduction of the electronic system, we have been able to block loopholes. In fact, initially a lot of people do go out and pretend to be FIRS staff and they would start collecting tax illegally in collaboration with equally dubious staff, but now, with the introduction of E- ticket, everything has become easier. People pay tax now in Nigeria more than before and are beginning to see it as their civic rights.

Speaking further, Dan reminded Nigerians that government alone cannot fund all the development plans without contribution from the state, local government and individuals through tax payment saying;

Speaking earlier, the Co-founder, ‘ Follow Taxes’ Saied Tafida, hinted that the programme, which is supported by the American government was all about taxation and how citizenry can get involved in the process.

The group according to him has commenced the exercise eight states of the federation including Abuja for a start, after which it will now spread to other states of the federation.
