DSSIEC pledges fair council election

The Chairman of Delta State Independent Electoral Commission DSIEC, Chief Mike Ogbodu, yesterday said that the commission would comply with the various processes that are in tandem with the 1999 constitution of federal republic of Nigeria and the 2017 State Electoral Law.

Chief Ogbodu, who stated this in a meeting with leaders of political parties, said the meeting was to seek the support of various stakeholders in the state with a view to conduct peaceful, credible and acceptable elections.

“It is in view of this singular fact that the commission has put necessary machinery in place geared towards the successful conduct of the proposed local government council general elections.”

“No doubt your presence at this meeting is a testimony of your belief in DSIEC and your resolve to see that expected positions at the third tier of government are occupied by elected officials. DSIEC strongly shares this view and is determined to ensure that the hope Deltans in conducting the proposed election is not jeopardized”

The chairman said that the commission in their meeting decided that the local government council general elections shall hold o Saturday, 6th January, 2018.

“The choice of this date is informed by the need to comply with the current DSIEC law of 2017 recently passed by our legislators at the state house of assembly”

“During my tenure, we will continue to seek the cooperation of the various political parties on matters that are germane to the succeeded of our election and promise to provide a level playing field for all, for purpose of clarity, we have drawn up this elections time table and guideline strictly in line with our laws” he said
