Driver absconds with employer’s money

The police in the Federal capital Territory (FCT) arraigned a commercial driver, Bello Jamiru, 37, in a Grade 1 Area Court in Kado, Abuja, for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Sgt Simeon Ibrahim, told the court that the complainant, Mr Basil Haruna, who resides at No. 2, Tapeta St. in Wuse 2 lodged a report against the accused at the Utako Police Station on March 1.

He said the complainant gave the accused his car, with an agreement that he would pay the complainant N18, 000 daily.
The prosecutor said the accused breached the agreement after collecting the car and converted to personal use, the more than N100,000 that he was supposed to have remitted to the complainant.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding officer, Mr. Abubakar Sadiq, admitted Jamiru to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with a surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Ado adjourned the case until May 10 for further hearing.
