DR Congo move to bid for AFCON 2029

Despite the African soccer governing body yet to open the bidding process for the 2029 African Cup of Nations, DR Congo have declared interest in staging the events.

The president of the country Felix Thisekedi during a press conference disclosed the interest of the country in staging the biennial competition.

”I didn’t want to say it now.” But, I still share it with our compatriots. I aim to organize CAN 2029 in the DRC.

I know it is not easy, but we will study this possibility with my colleagues as well as the Ministry of Finance and see how to do it.

If we have won the organization of the Francophonie games with flying colours, we can also organize the CAN,” he said.

The 2025 edition will take place in Morocco, while that of 2027 will be hosted by the trio Kenya – Tanzania – Zambia.
