Downpour wrecks Plateau capital

Torrential rainfall yesterday destroyed houses and vehicles in some parts of Jos, the Plateau state capital.

Our correspondent reports that the rain, which started in the morning, was accompanied by large ice blocks that damaged roof tops at Gada Biyu, Alheri, Rock Haven and others, in addition to smashing vehicles’ windscreens.

It further pulled down trees, flowers and other structures.

A journalist, who resides around Polo Gada Biyu, Yakubu Busari, said “I witnessed the rain, which fell heavily and destroyed some houses, but I did not witness or see any casualty.”

Executive Secretary, Plateau state Emergency Management Agency (PLASEMA), Alhaji Alhassan Barde, when contacted, said he was not aware of the incident.

He, however, said “but we will soon swing into action to see the actual situation; I thank you for letting us know.”
